On an incentive trip to enchanting Malta<\/h2>\n

One of our Belgian clients asked us to organise an incentive trip to a wonderful sun-drenched destination. After assessing all their wishes and requirements, we didn't have to think twice about what the perfect destination for this group was: Malta!<\/p>\n

This beautiful island lies in the Mediterranean and is one of the smallest islands in the world with a rich history. The destination is rather like an open-air museum with its many sights and monuments. In addition, you can organise many cool and unique activities there for a wide audience and it has a pleasant climate. And, not unimportantly, Malta is only just under a 3-hour flight from Amsterdam and Brussels. In this blog, I, Nadia de Bruijn \u2013 Project Manager at goMICE, will take you on an incentive trip to enchanting Malta!<\/p>\n

A day full of enthusiasm and pleasure!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In late May 2019 the time had come, and early in the morning I set off with a colleague and a group of guests from Brussels Airport for a four-day trip to Malta. All the participants were nicely on time and the atmosphere was great right from the start. After a comfortable flight, we landed at Malta Airport. Here the coach driver was already waiting for us to take the group to the first lunch venue in St Julian's. While the party enjoyed a three-course lunch in a (former) boathouse with panoramic views over Spinola Bay, my colleague was taken to the hotel to unload the luggage and prepare the check-in.<\/p>\n

Following lunch, we walked with the group to our hotel. We stayed in a fantastic five-star hotel that we regularly use, to the complete satisfaction of our clients. Whilst enjoying a welcome drink on the terrace, room keys were handed out and participants subsequently had some free time to relax or unwind by the edge of the cooling pool.<\/p>\n

\u2019In the evening, an extensive dinner was planned in the hotel restaurant. A relaxing end to the day. After dinner, there was the opportunity to have a drink in the hotel bar or head into the centre of St. Julians. This fantastic hotel is, after all, within walking distance of several great bars and clubs.<\/p>\n

The picturesque World Heritage city, cannon shots and time for relaxation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The following morning, a meeting was scheduled for the participants in one of the hotel's meeting rooms. The 14 meeting rooms can be arranged in various event layouts and are all equipped with modern technical equipment.<\/p>\n

After a delicious lunch on the hotel's sunny terrace, the group gathered to explore the capital city of Valletta. With its Moorish influences, this city is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Led by an experienced guide, we discovered steep streets, colourful front doors and balconies. We ended the city tour in the Upper Barrakka Gardens with a magnificent view over the Three Cities. Deafening gunshots are also fired here daily by the still-functioning cannons. After a refreshing drink with a typical Maltese snack, the group had free time to head into the city on their own. Some participants went shopping, others discovered more of the city independently, had an ice cream or sat at a pavement caf\u00e9. Especially with larger groups, guests often appreciate having some free time during the programme to spend a few hours as they wish. One person wants to pick up a souvenir to take home, while another wants to visit that specific museum. We always consult our clients about the most desirable approach for them and always incorporate our experience regarding this into our programme suggestions.<\/p>\n

This evening an extensive dinner buffet featuring local and international dishes was prepared at restaurant Fra Martino. From the restaurant there is a wonderful view over St George's Bay. Following the dinner, participants were given the opportunity to explore the nightlife of St Julians independently. Some of them did this... into the small hours!<\/p>\n

\"Malta:<\/p>\n

Exploring by jeep!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Naturally, a jeep safari across the island could not be missed, so the following morning everyone set off in open jeeps for an island tour including a delicious lunch at a stunning location. Here, we utilised one of our regular suppliers to ensure that everything was once again arranged to perfection. It was lovely, sunny weather and we set off to explore the island in convertible jeeps. We drove to the Red Tower and the village of Popeye, where the film of the same name, starring Robin Williams, was shot in 1980. Along the way, we stopped for a refreshing drink at a terrace by Golden Bay, one of Malta's most beautiful beaches. We also strolled through the quiet, medieval fortified town of Mdina\/Mtahleb, and enjoyed breathtaking views at the Dingli Cliffs. We drove through the traditional, picturesque fishing village of Marsaxlokk, where the bay is filled with \u201cluzzu\u201d, the typical colourful fishing boats. At the end of the afternoon, we concluded the tour back at the hotel, where the guests could freshen up for dinner.<\/p>\n

Taste the flavours of the island's largest charcoal grill!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For the final evening, a closing dinner was planned at a restaurant in Sliema. After a short bus transfer, we arrived at the venue, where a surprise song was sung on the bus for someone celebrating their birthday. This restaurant (one of our favourites in Malta) is in a fantastic location with a stunning view across the harbour of the city of Valletta. Described through the centuries as \u201cone of the finest views in Europe\u201d. After a delicious three-course Maltese dinner, the main courses of which were prepared on the island's largest charcoal grill, the bus was ready to take everyone back to St Julian's. A number of participants were dropped off along the way at a nice club to dance the night away, while the other participants went back to the hotel for a final drink in the cosy hotel bar.<\/p>\n

Conclusion of a fantastic incentive!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On the final morning, we had scheduled a free morning to properly recover from the fun and late evening. goMICE had specially arranged a late check-out at the hotel, so that the group could continue to use the hotel room and all of the hotel's facilities all morning. Unfortunately, the weather was a bit gloomier and it started to rain. Because of this, we had to move the lunch at the last minute from the terrace to the restaurant. In terms of the atmosphere and the quality of the food, this made no difference at all. After lunch, the coach driver was waiting for the group to take them back to the airport for the return flight to Belgium.<\/p>\n

All participants thoroughly enjoyed this trip filled with culture, relaxation, delicious food and, above all, great company! Malta was fantastic, the atmosphere was wonderful and once again we could look back on a successful and flawlessly executed incentive trip with a goMICE touch!<\/p>\n
