Apart from Amsterdam for instance, I have also come to love Rotterdam immensely, even though I am not from around here. Our head office is located here in the Maastoren on the 38th floore<\/sup> floor, where the view is naturally fantastic. The city from above is spectacular, but walking through the city is also something I really enjoy doing. Even now, Rotterdam has a lot of beauty and interest to offer. So, this past weekend too, my husband and I chose to take another lovely walk through the city. We have been fortunate enough to go on many walks in various cities and this time we chose Delfshaven and Spangen in Rotterdam. Will you read along?<\/p>\n We were out and about relatively early for a Sunday and the city still really had to wake up. I always get a bit sentimental when I see all the lovely hospitality venues, including many goMICE suppliers, closed. Ah well, most business owners are making the best of it and have built attractive outdoor stands outside, ranging from actual ski huts with pea soup and mulled wine, to entire (living) nativity scenes. During such a walk, we always try to have a few chats with goMICE suppliers while simultaneously discovering new hidden gems, just like we do in foreign cities.<\/p>\n So we visited a number of lovely locations, which we often include in group travel programmes in the form of a tasting, whether on foot or by bike. For example, with groups we almost always make a stop at Vermeyden Delicatessen on the Nieuwe Binnenweg, to enjoy a small tasting of delicious hams and cheeses there (perhaps with a glass of wine \ud83d\ude09). Unfortunately, this establishment is closed on Sundays, so this time we couldn't go there. On the same road is also chocolate workshop de Bonte Koe Chocolade<\/a><\/em>, a must-visit! With groups we always score gorgeous chocolate here and so we did this time too... delicious! Afterwards, just put in a few extra steps to compensate for those calories.<\/p>\n We walked about 13 kilometres through historic Delfshaven and Spangen, and came across some lovely (new) spots. Picturesque historic Delfshaven is one of the few parts of the old city that survived the 1940 bombing of Rotterdam. This is certainly reflected in the characterful canal houses, art studios, cafes and the authentic corn mill. I have taken special photos of both art and culture, which I would like to show you below.<\/p>\n As well as coming across special places, during such a walk you also make really nice connections. Especially during the lockdown, it feels as though everyone is seeking out the social atmosphere on the street even more, even though they don't know each other. The pedometer was on a good 15,000 at the end of the walk when we discovered one last spot, namely Chiqueolatte<\/a><\/em>. Here they serve \u2018food to feel good\u2019 in a warm and modern atmospheric setting, with an eye for the environment. We ordered a delicious homemade potato and pumpkin soup, served with a grilled piece of baguette with herb butter. All of this packaged separately to go, in sustainable material, including even wooden cutlery.<\/p>\n Tired but satisfied, we returned to our bikes (as we travel as sustainably as possible) and headed for home. After 20 minutes, we arrived home and flopped down on the sofa in front of Netflix, as probably many do on a Sunday afternoon. This time, \u2018A Girl in Oslo\u2019 was on the schedule. Highly recommended: 10 episodes of 35 minutes\u2026 We couldn't stop watching, it was that suspenseful. We only paused briefly to cook and eat, and finished the series in one go\u2026 \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n Naturally you want your group or incentive trip to Rotterdam to have a maximum impact on the participants.
