Seoul, the last of the 5 destinations! <\/strong><\/h4>\n
Why visit Seoul during this\u00a0inspirational trip<\/a>?<\/p>\n

- Seoul is known for two things, and that is first and foremost the very strange relationship with its neighbour North Korea after 1945.<\/li>\n
- On the other hand, Samsung's global headquarters is located in the city, and that is certainly noticeable!<\/li>\n
- But of course football fans also know that \u201cour\u201d Guus Hiddink beat Oranje and reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in Seoul.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

<\/p>\nAfter Tokyo, we will arrive in a city that is still undiscovered by many people.<\/strong><\/h4>\n
Seoul is also an exciting city because the border with North Korea is only 40 kilometres away. Briefly summarised:<\/p>\n

- Seoul is a massive city that heavily competes with the rest of Asia.<\/li>\n
- The city has a very high level of income and education among its population and therefore the 3e<\/sup>\u00a0richest city in Asia.<\/li>\n
- Seoul is the political, cultural, social and economic centre of South Korea.<\/li>\n
- The Han River forms the centre of the city.<\/li>\n
- Currently, no less than 48% of all South Koreans live in the Seoul region.<\/li>\n
- With roughly 11 million people in an area of 613 km2, the city of Seoul is one of the most densely populated cities in the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
But Seoul is not just a busy metropolis. It is also a city with a rich history and tradition. You can find ancient palaces from the Joseon dynasty, tiled roofs of traditional wooden hanok houses, traditional dances and old little shops where they sell things you have never seen before. And in the distance you can see Bukhansan National Park. The world's most visited national park.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\nWe soon discover that life in the city moves fast and everyone is ambitious and wants to get ahead. It also makes sense because a small country like South Korea has to compete against Japan and China (which also supports the northern neighbours). Competition is fierce and unfortunately South Korea is also known for having one of the highest suicide rates, ranking in the top 5. The station platforms are therefore fitted with glass partitions. Losing face or failing to meet expectations is out of the question here!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\nOverall 5G Wifi \u2013 1000 times faster than 4G<\/strong><\/h4>\n
Seoul is the only city in the world where everyone can use the 5G Wi-Fi network for free, and it's super-fast! This gives the city's economic development a massive boost! During our visit, we paid just as much attention to the city as we did to the local guide, who was enthusiastically demonstrating everything she does with her Samsung smartphone:<\/p>\n

- There are virtually no card readers in the city<\/li>\n
- Paying with a credit card in a shop is practically no longer possible.<\/li>\n
- Everything is paid for via an app on the phone (Samsung of course)<\/li>\n
- Download time of a feature film = 1 second<\/li>\n
- Tailor-made offers via your phone at the moment you walk past shops are already a reality there<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

<\/p>\nThe border with North Korea<\/strong><\/h4>\n
Just as a visit to the Wall between West and East Berlin was possible at the time, we also paid a visit to the border with North Korea<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\nIn the piece of no-man's-land, a few million landmines are hidden beneath the ground. A real \u2018no-go zone\u2019. If you look across the border towards North Korea, you can see a few towns and modern apartment blocks, but that is an illusion. Nobody lives there, and they are facades to show that they are just as well off as in South Korea. You can visit the tunnels and the museum there. Finally!<\/strong><\/h4>\n
In short, food, retail, technology impressive, the border with North Korea and the associated threat give the whole thing a special dimension!<\/p>\n
I am definitely going there at least once more in my life and for the group we will include this destination alongside Shanghai and Tokyo in the final itinerary.
