Een heisessie is een bijeenkomst buiten de dagelijkse werkomgeving waarin een team, directie of organisatie werkt aan strategie, samenwerking, verandering of belangrijke keuzes. De naam verwijst naar “de hei op gaan”: afstand nemen van de dagelijkse operatie om met meer rust en overzicht vooruit te kijken.
Een heisessie is waardevol wanneer er richting, verdieping of besluitvorming nodig is. Bijvoorbeeld bij een nieuwe strategie, interne groei, verandering, samenwerking binnen het MT, jaarplannen, cultuurvraagstukken of complexe keuzes waar je op kantoor niet goed aan toekomt.
Buiten kantoor ontstaat letterlijk en mentaal meer afstand. Deelnemers worden minder afgeleid door e-mails, collega’s en dagelijkse taken. Daardoor ontstaat ruimte voor reflectie, open gesprekken en strategisch denken. De locatie helpt om de groep uit de automatische stand te halen.
Een heisessie kan één dag duren, maar voor echte verdieping is een tweedaagse met overnachting vaak sterker. Dan ontstaat er meer ruimte voor informele gesprekken, reflectie en rust tussen de inhoudelijke onderdelen. De juiste duur hangt af van het doel en de complexiteit van de onderwerpen.
Een heisessie is geschikt voor directies, managementteams, projectteams, afdelingen, partnerships of organisaties die samen aan richting en samenwerking willen werken. Vooral groepen die belangrijke keuzes moeten maken of onderlinge afstemming zoeken, halen veel waarde uit een goed ontworpen heisessie.
Een goede heisessie heeft een concreet doel. Bijvoorbeeld: strategische prioriteiten bepalen, samenwerking verbeteren, rollen verduidelijken, jaarplannen uitwerken, besluitvorming versnellen of een verandertraject starten. Zonder helder doel wordt een heisessie snel een losse dag met veel gesprekken maar weinig resultaat.
Een goede heisessie locatie biedt rust, privacy, comfort en ruimte. De omgeving moet uitnodigen tot nadenken en gesprek. Dat kan een locatie in de natuur zijn, maar ook een stijlvolle vergaderlocatie, hotel, landgoed of internationale bestemming. Belangrijk is dat de setting past bij het doel van de sessie.
Nee. Natuur kan helpen om rust en afstand te creëren, maar het is geen verplichting. De beste locatie is de locatie die past bij de groep en de gewenste uitkomst. Soms is dat een bosrijke omgeving, soms juist een stedelijke locatie met inspirerende energie.
Vaak wel. Een facilitator helpt om het gesprek scherp te houden, iedereen aan bod te laten komen en van discussie naar besluitvorming te bewegen. Zeker bij gevoelige onderwerpen, strategische keuzes of groepen met verschillende belangen is externe begeleiding waardevol.
Een heisessie kan bestaan uit strategische sessies, reflectie, break-outs, werkvormen, informele momenten, diners, wandelingen, teamopdrachten of inspiratiesessies. De kunst is om het programma niet te vol te maken. Goede gesprekken hebben ruimte nodig.
