An anniversary trip to Lanzarote
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of an advertising agency, we organised a wonderful Group trip to Lanzarote. And the honour is mine to organise this trip down to the very last detail.
Lanzarote is the most northerly island of the Canary Islands. The island is also called the “volcanic island”; most of the island looks like a moonscape due to the covering of cooled lava! In this blog, an account of the enjoyable anniversary trip.
Day 1: César Manrique, La Geria & La Casa Roja
The group leaves early in the morning from Düsseldorf for Lanzarote airport, where the guides will be waiting for them upon arrival. After a short drive to the accommodation, everyone can unwind for a bit at the privately rented villa. While enjoying the sun by the pool, a delicious lunch will be served at the villa, restoring everyone's energy to kick off the afternoon programme. After all, we have put together a suitable tailor-made programme and will start the first day with a tour of the island!
Visit to Cesar Manrique's house in Tahiche
The first impressive stop is the house of Cesar Manrique, a great artist from Lanzarote. The original nature of this island is fully integrated into the house.
The house of artist César Manrique is built on and into a solidified lava flow. Several rooms have been created in the underground lava cavities. Above ground are square spaces with ponds, trees and cacti where it is pleasant to spend time. Striking are the contrasts between the black lava rocks and the rendered white brickwork. Unusual, but also tasteful.
La Geria
Next, the tour continues to Lanzarote's wine region: La Geria. A stop is made here for a wine tasting with savoury snacks.
The Red House
One of the best-known sights of Lanzarote is The Red House (the red house) located in Puerto Del Carmen. Here we conclude the evening with dinner. The restaurant offers Canarian and Mediterranean cuisine with a modern twist. Head chef Paul Campbell has over 30 years of experience and loves to use fresh fish and local produce in his exquisite dishes. And you can taste it!
Day 2: Twizy tour, the wondrous Jameos del Agua & visit to LagOmar museum
The second day! Time to discover more of the island, this time we'll add some extra dynamism by doing it with a Twizy tour.
If you have always wanted to know what it is like to tour in an electric car, this Twizy tour is a must on this island. Quietly and emission-free, you will discover the fascinating surroundings of Lanzarote in a sustainable way. How lovely! The route starts in Costa Teguise and then cruises through traditional Canarian fishing villages, such as Charco de Palo, Arrieta and Punta Mujeres.
Along the way we will make a stop at one of Lanzarote's main attractions, Jameos Del Agua. It is an oasis of peace and beauty. Here we will have lunch before setting course for the hotel.
In the north of Lanzarote, underground caves have been formed by volcanic flows. The cave system extends from a few kilometres inland to almost the
coast. A part of the caves has remained virtually intact as nature formed them. Together with Jameos del Agua, these Cueva de los Verdes form two of the island's main attractions. Jameos del Agua is a natural subterranean lake which has been enriched by the famous artist/architect César Manrique with seating areas around it, a volcano museum and an open-air artificial lagoon.
LagOmar
On the second evening, a visit to the LagOmar museum is planned. Afterwards, there will be drinks at the bar and a delicious three-course dinner. The chefs at this restaurant specialise in Mediterranean cuisine and are renowned for serving the best and most exceptional dishes on the island.
LagOmar was once the home of the actor Omar Sharif. Today, this magnificent building houses a restaurant, a museum and two cottages. Casa Omar Sharif was designed by César Manrique, Lanzarote's most famous artist. Manrique's idea was to build it in an Arabian Nights style. The house is built against a cliff and appears to be suspended from it. It consists of several levels and is white in colour. It is surrounded by three gorgeous gardens, which contain all sorts of caves and tunnels with secret passageways. Exhibitions by painters and sculptors are held in the surrounding gardens, and open-air concerts also take place regularly.
Day 3: private catamaran day trip & return journey
After breakfast, the group will depart for the port. We have arranged for a private catamaran to be ready and waiting. A must-do during a visit to Lanzarote.
After the crew has welcomed everyone on board, the skipper sets a course towards the coast of Puerto del Carmen: a magnificent sight from the water. Off the beaches of Puerto del Carmen, he sails further towards the beaches of Papagayo. During the catamaran trip, guests enjoy an open bar and various local snacks, such as fruit, olives and delicious cheeses.
Following the concluding lunch at the villa, the group will depart by coach for Lanzarote airport for the return flight to Düsseldorf. This brings an end to a fantastic and enjoyable anniversary trip!
