Case: Teambuilding with character: IHG Stainless Steel celebrates 20th anniversary

Twenty years of craftsmanship deserves more than a standard drink. For their anniversary, IHG Roestvaststaal opted for something that suited the team better: action, camaraderie, and a good dose of humour. goMICE was allowed to organise a two-day trip for a colourful mix of colleagues aged between 24 and 60. A challenge? Absolutely. Because everyone needed to feel at home and the packed schedule had to be accurate to the minute.

 

From proposal to execution: finding the right balance

In the run-up to the 2026 anniversary, IHG Stainless Steel primarily wanted to experience something together. To laugh, catch up, and be proud of what they had built. The brief was clear: culture, action, Burgundian enjoyment, and a bit of adrenaline. goMICE brainstormed three destinations: the Veluwe, Ghent, and Limburg, ultimately choosing Limburg. The travel time remained limited, and the range of activities was perfect for the whole group. 

The trip had to suit the entire group: from the active person to the relaxed enjoyer. We found that balance by alternating active moments with socialising and culinary stops. This way, it became a programme that gave energy instead of draining it.

Celebrating an anniversary underground  

The kick-off was Burgundian: coffee with Limburg pie at Huyskamer Daatjeshoeve in Weert, complete with an edible IHG Stainless Steel logo. A small gesture that immediately set the tone. Afterwards, the group descended to La Caverne in Valkenburg, a mysterious quarry that is normally closed to the public. Between the rock walls and the warm light of the Ofyr fires, the colleagues enjoyed a dinner with character.

The evening ended with a healthy dose of competition. During the group game "De Alleskunner" (The Jack of All Trades), even the quietest people let loose. Laughter, teamwork, secretly wanting to win: precisely the right mix to bring the group a little closer together.

 

Team building in the hills: cycling, laughing, racing

The next morning kicked off with a good dose of bravery: cave biking through the marl caves of Valkenburg. Dark, exciting, and surprisingly fun. Afterwards, they had lunch on the Vrijthof in the atmospheric city of Maastricht. The grand finale took place closer to home: karting battles in Breda. Helmet on, put your foot down. A sporty finish full of healthy rivalry, concluded with a relaxed dinner at De Boschwachter: the perfect balance between action and relaxation.

STRETCH in practice

At goMICE, we like to use our STRETCH method: extending the experience, from anticipation to afterglow. For IHG Roestvaststaal, we did this with the Vamoos app. Daily hints and updates appeared in it, keeping curiosity alive. The schedule also had to be accurate to the minute. Thanks to the team of project managers, everything ran smoothly, from bus times to the timing of activities. This allowed the group to focus entirely on what mattered: enjoying themselves together.

 

The result: a satisfied customer and a closer team

Afterwards, goMICE received glowing praise: from the organisation to the atmosphere, everything was perfectly put together. The colleagues returned with renewed energy, great stories and the feeling that they had experienced something together.

For us, this project was a textbook example of serious engagement: a journey that does more than just entertain. Two days full of action, conviviality and connection: exactly what IHG Roestvaststaal had in mind.
