Singapore, a fantastic city for a group trip

Singapore, a fantastic city for a group trip

Singapore is among the smallest countries in Southeast Asia and one of the 50 smallest countries in the world. Yet more than four million people live there, making it the third most densely populated country in the world. In the article below, we explain why Singapore is a unique destination for a incentive travel. Rob van goMICE also previously wrote about a inspirational trip with a group of entrepreneurs to Singapore.

The country of Singapore

Singapore consists of about 60 islands, including Singapore itself, Jurong, Tekong, Ubin and Sentosa, among others. Singapore has only been independent from Malaysia since 1965. The city of Singapore has many skyscrapers and a magnificent skyline that has undergone enormous development. Along the coastline there are a number of wide sandy beaches, and inland you will find nature reserves and botanical gardens. In addition, the country is known for its pleasant climate, strict legislation and, as a result, always clean streets! A unique destination for a group tour or an incentive trip.

Economy

For years, Singapore had the largest port in the world. Shanghai has dethroned Singapore. Nevertheless, Singapore has experienced significant economic growth in recent years, making it one of the most important trading areas in the world.

Culture

Four languages are spoken in Singapore, but the national language is English. The indigenous population is made up of 75% Chinese, Malays (14%) and Indians (8%). As a result, you can enjoy very varied and delicious food in Singapore!

Although Singapore is a modern country, there are still significant cultural differences compared to the Netherlands. Therefore, beforehand we always brief our groups on the etiquette of the destination country. During this trip, for example, the group was told that they must never touch anyone, that they should speak in a quiet, subdued tone, and that it is not desirable to give compliments about how nice the children are. This is said to bring bad luck. Handy to know in advance to prevent misunderstandings!

Sights during a group tour of Singapore

Supertree Grove

The attraction that we almost always include in the group programme is visiting Supertree Grove in Gardens by the Bay. The Singaporean government developed Gardens by the Bay to transform the city from a garden city into a ‘city in a garden’. The government thus encourages its residents to preserve the greenery and fauna in the city. There is a futuristic forest, an architectural park and two biomes (greenhouses). The trees have a height of 25 – 50 metres and are equipped with environmentally friendly technologies and ecological functions. In the park, we will tell the group much more about the origins and function of the park!

Singapore Flyer

The Singapore Flyer is one of the largest observation wheels in the world! An absolute must-see for our travellers. From the Singapore Flyer, our groups have breathtaking views of the city as well as the three countries of Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia (Batam Island). At a height of 165 metres, it is not very suitable for participants with a fear of heights: we will arrange a suitable alternative for them. We ensure that your entire group can fit into a single capsule. The spaces are even air-conditioned.

F1 Circuit

One of the most exclusive parts of the group trip was definitely visiting the F1 circuit. This is where our Max Verstappen made history with his world championship. Several races take place here annually.

Cycling through the city

Discovering the city by bike is the ideal way for our groups! In this way, a group experiences up close how Singaporeans live, eat, work and exercise. We visit places where the average traveller does not go, and our guides will constantly captivate you with interesting stories and facts. Our guide will lead you through old and modern Singapore and, if desired, we can combine it with a culinary tasting!

Marina Bay Sands and Ku Dé Ta

A must-see during our group tours is the Marina Bay Sands resort. In total, this project cost a staggering 8 billion euros. The complex consists of event halls, a museum, seven (!) star-rated restaurants, an ice rink, a casino and much more. We organise an interesting guided tour of the Marina Bay Sands, followed by a visit to Singapore's finest and most exclusive rooftop bar: Ku Dé Ta. From this skybar you will have unprecedented 360-degree views of the city. Breathtaking!

Visit to Sentosa Island by cable car

Relaxing (from the long journey) on Singapore's finest beaches is, of course, a must. We take the cable car from the HarbourFront Centre to Sentosa. We usually plan this for the day after arrival.

Experiencing culture in Little India

In this neighbourhood, the colours and aromas come out to meet you. You find yourself here in a completely different world. It is wonderful to experience the contrast with the modern city centre.

Our hotel partner in Singapore

We at goMICE have had great experiences with the Holiday Inn Orchard Road. This lovely 4-star hotel is situated in a very good location close to Orchard Road, where it all happens. The hotel is geared towards the business traveller and is fully equipped with all amenities. Outside the hotel, there are plenty of nice and good restaurants, where we frequently go to dine with groups. In addition, all sights and attractions are easily accessible from the Holiday Inn Orchard Road.
