“Up in the air in one's own country
Almost everyone has flown at some point, but almost always this is in – or to – another country and usually as a means of transport, rather than an activity. But how special is it to ascend to great heights within the Netherlands and view our beautiful country from a bird’s-eye perspective? Below, we are happy to provide a number of tips for inspiration regarding unique activities or modes of transport, for (small) groups or individual VIPs that you would like to surprise in a special way.
Glider
Gliding is seen by many as the purest form of flying. Within a few seconds, the streamlined aircraft is towed up to a height of as much as 400 metres by another plane using a cable. Once at altitude, the pilot disconnects the cable between the aircraft and the glider floats along independently. Because a glider has no engine, you enjoy the view in complete peace and quiet and it feels as though you are soaring through the sky like a bird. A sensation in itself! The aircraft flies on warm air that is generated when the sun warms the earth. Because this warm air (also known as thermals) rises, the glider stays afloat in the air and can even climb higher.
Helicopter flight
Choose a bird's-eye view over the city of Rotterdam, with a helicopter flight from Rotterdam The Hague Airport. From the air, you can admire 75 years of reconstruction following a devastating history. There is no city in the world that has set to work with such decisiveness and heroism as Rotterdam. With this flight, you will also have a unique view of the city's most iconic monuments. Hot-air balloon
Nothing is more beautiful than admiring a landscape from the air. From a great height, it feels as though you are staring at a life-sized map. The sun playing with the landscape is a magical sensation. The best way to witness this is from a hot-air balloon, during sunrise or sunset. The flat landscape of our own little country is ideally suited for magnificent views. Flights are available at many locations across the country. For example, consider the Utrechtse Heuvelrug with a chance of spotting wild animals, or West Friesland, where the water of the IJsselmeer has a wonderful golden glow at sunset.
4: Blackshape flight training

The flying lesson begins with an explanation of the theory, followed by a check to ensure the aircraft is ready for departure. Through the headset you can hear the instructions from the instructor and the air traffic control tower. After receiving permission from the tower to depart, the moment has arrived! Once in the air, you get to fly this exceptional aircraft yourself, right up until the final part of the landing. This is easier said than done, as the controls are extremely sensitive! With all the modern equipment in front of you, it feels as though you are an F16 pilot, a truly unique experience!
Microlight flying
Flying in a trike is very different from, for example, an aeroplane, a hot-air balloon or a helicopter. Flying a trike is more comparable to hang-gliding, only a trike flies with an engine. You fly together with a pilot, with a propeller at the back. The trike's large hang-glider wing is steered using the handlebar, a sort of triangular trapeze, by means of weight shift. From the open cockpit the view is fantastic and thanks to the relatively low speed of about 80 to 110 kilometres per hour, you have plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings!
