Retail trip to business America!
It required a lot of stamina, both from the organisers and the participants of this retail trip to America. Originally planned for March 2020, it was finally undertaken in November 2022. Approximately a week before the group was due to depart in 2020, America went into lockdown and European travellers were no longer welcome. A situation nobody had experienced before and of which nobody knew how it would unfold. Of course, there was hope, as with many, that it would only be a matter of a few months. The trip was initially rebooked for November 2020. Unfortunately, this proved to be in vain, and the trip was postponed several more times. Ultimately, it was rescheduled for November 2022, some 2.5 years after the originally planned travel date. Finally, the retail trip could go ahead! The long wait had not been in vain, as it turned out to be a fantastic retail trip…
Travel itinerary Detroit, Washington D.C. & New York City
Detroit
The participants were in for an inspiring and impressive week, which included visits to various cities. To begin, Detroit. The city is primarily known for the car brands Ford, General Motors and Chrysler, but also as the birthplace of Motown. When the car factories moved from Detroit to low-wage countries, a population exodus occurred and the city fell into serious decline. The city is now slowly flourishing again, with many captivating stories, beautiful architecture and museums to discover. In addition, the world-famous pawn shop ‘Les Gold’ is located in Detroit, where a tour was given by pawnbroker and reality TV star Leslie Gold. A photo was, of course, a must! Naturally, the group also visited many interesting and special retail concepts and took a ride on the People Mover.
Washington D.C.
After visiting Detroit, the party headed towards the USA capital: Washington D.C.. Here, they spent an afternoon cycling around the city, discovering all its highlights; the White House, the J. Edgar Hoover F.B.I. Building, Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery. Dinner was at the restaurant where J.F. Kennedy once proposed to his wife. A historic spot!
New York City
The next day, the group travelled to New York by train, a relaxed and sustainable way to travel. In New York, the tour leader took the group past fascinating buildings and retail businesses. A visit to The SUMMIT was, of course, also a must, what a view! Before the group returned home, a local Dutch-speaking guide took them by bike through different New York neighbourhoods, past Domino Sugar Refinery, one of the largest mixed-use developments in North Williamsburg, Navy Yard and the Financial District. A very interesting day!
Later, we received these lovely words of praise about the trip and collaboration:

After a week, the participants returned to the Netherlands feeling inspired and enthusiastic. Preparations for the next retail trip are now well underway, with the prospect that the trip can indeed take place in the intended year! 😉 We look forward to making this trip a great success too!
