A group tour to Andalusia
Andalusia, and especially the cities found there, is an area that we are quite fond of goMICE increasingly booking trips there. Many companies appreciate this area for its Moorish influences, beautiful buildings and pleasant climate.
Transport and travel in Andalusia
Travelling in the area is very easy. There are many train connections, but for more flexibility a hire car is very suitable. Good quality motorways run between the cities and it is definitely not busy. On some routes you can also choose a toll road, but in terms of traffic this is really not necessary, it saves at most a few minutes of time.
Group tour to Granada
Andalusia is a region generally considered to be the southern part of Spain. The most important cities to be found here are Seville, Cordoba, Malaga and Granada. Between those cities lie many small villages that are really worth visiting. Think of the town of Ronda, for example, or the famous driving route 'de La Ruta de Los Pueblos Ranchos'. For this route, pick up a map at the local tourist office or just Google the route, it is well worth it!
The capital of the province of Granada
Granada is the capital of the province of the same name and has a population of around 234,000. The city is primarily known for the Alhambra, which is also its main attraction. However, the centre is certainly also lovely to spend a day in. There is a nice shopping area featuring, usefully, covered shopping streets to shield you from the sun, as in the summer temperatures soar and the bright sun is very hot! In addition, there are several buildings with magnificent decorations and features from the Moorish period.
Alhambra and Generalife
The Alhambra and the adjoining Generalife lend themselves exceptionally well to a day visit. Our advice is to book tickets online in advance, as only a limited number of tickets are sold each day for the finest section, the Nasrid Palace. The tickets are valid for the whole day, but a time slot is allocated for the Nasrid Palace. Once inside, you can take as long as you like on the walking tour. There is a separate entrance for groups. In the case of an incentive trip or group tour where the Alhambra is part of the programme, we will of course arrange this flawlessly for you.
The most northern city in Andalusia
Cordoba is the northernmost city in Andalusia. Its most important sight is the Mezquita. This building is the third largest mosque in the world and what makes it special is that a Catholic cathedral has been built in the middle of it. Both influences thus blend together here, a unique experience! The building is known for its many columns, which total no fewer than 856. Tickets do not need to be booked in advance here. In the courtyard with fruit trees, there are several ticket counters and ticket machines to be found.
Seville
Seville is the capital of Andalusia and the province of Seville: an important city in terms of culture, politics, economy and art. Because the city is quite large, considerable distances sometimes have to be covered. A good way to do this is by bicycle. You can hire bicycles in various places, but a guided tour is also definitely recommended. We experienced this ourselves with much different groups and guided tours in the Dutch language are also provided by the local guides affiliated with us.
Sights of Seville
The cathedral is a gigantic building in the middle of Seville and one of the special sights of Seville. It is the third largest cathedral in the world. It is quite austere inside, but immense to see! The tower can be climbed and an advantage of this climb is that there are no steps, but a path winding gradually upwards.
Due to massive queues, it is advisable to arrange tickets in advance. A top tip is to visit the Church of El Salvador first and buy a combo ticket there, as this is also valid for the cathedral. There are no queues at this smaller church, and you can then walk straight past the queue at the cathedral and go right in. Ronda
Ronda is a slightly smaller city but really shouldn't be missed. The city is located in the province Málaga and has a population of some 36,000.
The city lies on a kind of plateau and right through the city runs a deep gorge of almost 100 metres deep, spanned by the Puente Nuevo: the ‘new’ bridge. In the city itself there are many hotels to be found, but just outside the city lie the somewhat quieter and more intimate accommodations. A very nice hotel that we often book for groups is the Parador de Ronda. This hotel is located right in the centre. And at the edge there is a magnificent view to be found of the Puente Nuevo and the surrounding hills!
