Barcelona baby: an incentive trip for 200 people to Barcelona!
After a trip to Croatia in 2022, this year our regular client chose a three-day incentive trip to Barcelona! And so Lotte, Nadia, Chiara and Anita set off in June with over 200 participants to the vibrant Spanish metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea. Barcelona + 211 enthusiastic international participants + the San Juan festival weekend + the most delicious Spanish food = a guaranteed combination for a successful incentive! We will take you through the travel itinerary!
We are going to…..
On the day of departure, all participants gathered early in the morning at the head office in Utrecht, not yet knowing where they would be heading. Over the past few months, they had already received all kinds of hints from the internal project team, but the destination remained secret and undiscovered until the very last moment. During a shared breakfast, a video was played in which the destination was revealed: Off to Barcelona baby!
Split across two flights
The maximum capacity of a regular charter plane averages 189 passengers. Last year, the group departed by private charter for the beautiful city of Split, but this year the group was too large for a single aircraft and it was decided to split them across two scheduled flights: one from Brussels and one from Amsterdam.
The festival of San Juan
A trip to Barcelona is always a celebration, but this weekend was extra special because the festival of Sant Joan was being celebrated: the shortest night of the year and the start of summer! The beach is the place to be where fireworks, bonfires, cava and coca (Catalan pastry) are the main ingredients. How special it is to celebrate such a festival together and what an energy was unleashed in the city during this weekend!
For us, organising an incentive during this special weekend was an extra-large challenge, as this is one of the busiest weekends of the year in Barcelona. As a result, all sorts of special rules apply, roads are closed, etc. Naturally, this was a challenge we were keen to tackle.
Beach, boats & bikes
Naturally, it wasn't all partying, as Spanish culture, the surrounding area and delicious Spanish food were also discovered. For instance, the group enjoyed a wonderful paella lunch at an exclusively hired beach club in Barceloneta, the beautiful coastline was admired from the water during a catamaran cruise, and the city was explored by bike. In addition, a spontaneous pool party broke out on the hotel's rooftop, complete with a DJ and an enchanting view over the city and the Sagrada Família.
Surprising venue for 200+ people!
For larger groups, it is often a challenge to find suitable venues that are large enough and also atmospheric. After all, it is easier to find unique local gems that can accommodate 50 people than locations suitable for 200+ people. On this trip too, we have succeeded in offering surprising venues. For example, the group enjoyed a tapas dinner in a fantastically atmospheric spot in the heart of Barcelona, the Gothic Quarter.
