The city plays an influential role in trade, finance, media, art/culture, and also the fashion industry. It is a city that is much visited to gain inspiration by architects, for example. “If you can make it there, you can make it everywhere!” Everything is grand, innovative, and inspiring. The perfect choice for an inspirational trip but also very suitable as an incentive destination. We are taking you digitally to NYC!
New York, New York
The melting pot of all the different cultures. That's what makes New York so special to us. Immigrants from all over the world live there, and around 170 different languages are spoken. The five largest ethnic groups are: Puerto Ricans, Italians, Indians, Irish, and Chinese. With 9.5 million inhabitants, New York is the most densely populated city in the United States. New York has many districts: SoHo, NoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown, Meatpacking District, Chelsea, Nolita, Greenwich Village, and Harlem. Each with its own character and history.
The summers can be very hot and the winters, conversely, very cold. When we travelled there in a group in February, it was even 20 degrees below zero! A further advantage, however, is that it is quiet everywhere. In spring and autumn, it is a lot busier with tourists.
Documents and tickets
You will need what's called an ESTA to enter America. We at goMICE will take care of all the necessary documents before and during your group trips. Nowadays, JFK airport is almost fully automated, meaning we can get the group through customs within half an hour. Once we've arrived, we will hand out the New York transport passes. These give us priority in queues and ensure you can see as much as possible in one day!
Transport in New York
New York is made up of five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. You can really tell that New York is densely populated when you're on the road: the streets are almost always gridlocked. That's why we at goMICE use the ‘subway’, and our project managers know the metro lines like the back of their hand by now. A quick and easy way to travel in the centre of New York!
Sights in the Big Apple
The sights of New York are world-famous and often symbolise the United States. There is always something to do for groups, whether it's relaxation, shopping, museums, or team-building workshops. New York offers it!
Highlights
As a corporate incentive destination, the highlights of New York are an absolute must. Probably the biggest challenge is to, before your incentive travel to make a choice between the many options. Consider the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square (especially in the evening), Wall Street, the skyscrapers such as the ’Empire State Building‘, but also Ground Zero: the 9/11 memorial. A shopping moment between activities? If there's enough time, department stores Macy’s or Saks 5th Avenue are a good option. Did you know that… Is the Prada store in New York designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas?
Admire the view
- By helicopter: One of our favourite and most special ways to view the city is by helicopter. A spectacular scenic flight lasts about 15 minutes, during which you can admire the city with a breathtaking view!
- From a skyscraper: Another option is to admire the view from one of the many skyscrapers. We usually choose between the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Centre or the Freedom Tower. It just depends on what fits well into the schedule at that moment.
- From a rooftop bar Enjoying the view with a trendy cocktail or a good glass of wine? That's also possible. We'll then visit a rooftop bar such as the rooftop bar at The Standard Hotel, The W Hotel or The Gansevoort.
Eating together in one of the many restaurants
New York is home to countless excellent and trendy restaurants. A small selection of our favourites includes: Sushi Samba and Nobu New York for sushi, Shake Shack for the tastiest organic burgers, Chipotle for authentic Mexican food, and Thank God It's Friday for typical American dining. Many of the aforementioned restaurants are often fully booked a week in advance. We at goMICE therefore ensure that we secure good seats at the selected restaurants. Naturally, we always take your travellers' dining preferences into account.
Enjoy the parks
Ultimate enjoyment of New York's atmosphere and people. Fancy lunching like the locals do? We arrange delicious, ready-made meals that can then be enjoyed in one of the many parks. Perfect for a moment of relaxation! Want to incorporate an event into your incentive trip? Then a yoga class in Central Park is a unique opportunity!
Exploring New York on a sporting tour
See a lot in a relatively short amount of time? A bike tour can make it happen! Did you know that New York has 2170 kilometres of cycle paths?
