On tour with an orchestra to Vienna
Vienna is the largest city and also the capital of Austria. Vienna is seen as the centre of classical music and opera. It's quite self-evident that one of the Netherlands' greatest orchestras has Vienna high on its wish list!
One of the largest orchestras in the Netherlands wanted to visit Vienna with its sponsors. Naturally, they took Contact stop met goMICE. The expertise and experience to make such a trip a success are fully present with us!
The client wanted the following to be taken care of down to the last detail:
- Transport of the orchestra to Vienna
- Organising the trip for the sponsors to Vienna
- A performance by the orchestra in the Wiener Musikverein
- A drinks reception with the orchestra and the conductor
A lovely challenge for goMICE, to showcase the expertise we have in-house! Because transporting an orchestra requires a great deal of attention and an eye for detail. No musician wants to lose sight of their violin or cello, let alone leave their instrument in the cargo hold of a plane. An extra seat ‘just’ has to be reserved for that!
Christmas atmosphere in Vienna
The trip was scheduled to take place in December, which would have added a wonderful extra Christmas atmosphere. Our aim was to give the composers and musicians a real experience in Vienna. And in our opinion, this could start from the moment of invitation. The beautiful invitation was drafted on old parchment, supposedly written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart himself. Packaged in a lovely tube, the invitation landed on the doormat. The invitation was well-received and certainly fuelled enthusiasm for this trip. Registration could then begin.
Four days in Vienna with 50 sponsors
With over fifty sponsors, who have the orchestra close to their hearts, we went on a four-day trip to Vienna. For such a special journey, a special hotel is naturally required. For this, we found the most authentic hotel in Vienna, Hotel Sacher.
We arranged for all the rooms to have a view of the opera. That made their hearts beat faster!
Upon arriving in the room, we had a piece of original Sachertorte prepared for the sponsors.
They also heard then that the entire orchestra and the conductor will be staying at the same hotel. A lovely experience!
Visit to Mahler's grave
Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) was considered one of the most important conductors of his time. One of the special places we visited was Gustav Mahler's grave, where we spoke about his life. Flowers were laid on the grave.
Then came the schnapps glasses from our bag, with which we toasted his life. A surprising but also touching moment!
To the wine town of Grinzing
After this lovely moment, we guided everyone to the wine town of Grinzing. There it was time to have a nice meal and everyone could choose a tasty piece of meat from the butcher who is accommodated in the restaurant. A particularly beautiful place to eat! The group was able to chat here afterwards while enjoying a delicious glass of Heuriger (a young Austrian wine of the year) and a fine piece of meat.
Encounters with the musicians
Here and there, we interrupted the journey to meet with the musicians. The highlight of the trip was, of course, the performance in the magnificent concert hall, the Wiener Musikverein.
All in all, this was a fantastic trip for goMICE to organise. It’s wonderful for us to see when everyone is impressed by the special moments we’ve created. That’s what we do it for!
