Your next incentive trip to trendy Hamburg
This modern port city is located on the River Elbe and is the ideal destination for an incentive trip or event not far from the Netherlands. Hamburg is – after Berlin – the second largest city in Germany but still an unknown travel destination to many. We at goMICE know, however, that this city has an incredible amount to offer! From hip bars in old warehouses to modern buildings, and from the city beach to challenging water activities. In this blog, we are happy to tell you more about trendy Hamburg!
Contrast between Speicherstadt and HafenCity
During a visit to Hamburg, the contrast between the historic Speicherstadt and the modern HafenCity is not to be missed. Speicherstadt is recognisable by its red warehouses, which were the symbol of Hamburg as a successful trading city. The combination of red bricks, canals and bridges gives the Speicherstadt its unique appearance and has also ensured that this place has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Just like in Amsterdam, Hamburg's old ports are being transformed into residential, working, leisure and cultural areas.
The modern HafenCity-area is being built around the old harbour area of Speicherstadt with its massive architectural buildings, as an extension of the city centre. Witness the impressive contrasts between old and new, for example during a cycle tour accompanied by an experienced guide. And finish with a drink at one of the iconic rooftop bars in Hafencity!

Relax by the River Alster
The River Alster is a tributary of the Elbe and is divided in Hamburg into the Binnenalster and the Aussenalster. The Alsterpark is popular with the people of Hamburg and offers the opportunity to enjoy an extensive picnic, walk or bike ride amongst the swans, sailing boats and nature whilst enjoying the peaceful surroundings. In addition, various activities can be enjoyed on the water, such as rowing, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding.
The red-light district
The Reeperbahn used to be known as Hamburg's red-light district, which back then mainly came alive in the evenings and at night. Today, the Reeperbahn is Hamburg's premier nightlife street, with many lively bars and trendy clubs. A fun fact is that in one of the side streets of the Reeperbahn, the Beatles‘ success story began. This can be recognised by the statue located on the Beatle-Platz.
Boat trip through the port or even faster!
A visit to this port city is not complete without taking a boat tour of the impressive harbour. Step aboard a comfortable tour boat and learn all the ins and outs of the city accompanied by an experienced guide. Fancy a bit more action? Then choose a RIB boat experience and cruise through the port of Hamburg at high speeds!

Early birds at the fish market
For the early birds curious about the spectacle on Sunday morning, it is recommended to visit the fish market. Witness here how the merchants trade their fish with loud voices at the old fish auction hall. Live bands can be found and night owls who have plunged into the nightlife of the Reeperbahn can head here in the early hours of Sunday morning for a hearty breakfast. Pickled herring with schnapps is the ultimate delicacy in Hamburg!
Strand Pauli
Beach in the city! In the hip district of St. Pauli, right by the fish market, the “Pauli” beach can be found in summer. The associated beach club overlooks the Elbe and the port of Hamburg. Feel the sand between your toes, the sun on your skin and enjoy a cooling drink at this beach in the city. Definitely a unique experience!
