Winterberg as a ski destination
This modern ski resort near the Netherlands has long been a popular ski destination, partly due to its high snow reliability. With the first snowfall in December, the “Roof of Sauerland” transforms into the ideal environment for winter sports enthusiasts. With over 25 lifts and more than 370 snow cannons, Skilliftkarussell Winterberg is the largest winter sports area north of the Alps. The ski area boasts a total length of 27.5 kilometres and offers multiple blue (easy) and red (intermediate) pistes, as well as one black piste. Beginners, snowboarders, and cross-country skiers will all find plenty to enjoy here. Don't have your own winter sports equipment? No worries! Our favourite activities in Winterberg
Naturally, there is much more to experience in addition to skiing and snowboarding during your incentive trip to Winterberg! We are happy to share three of our favourites with you:
- Ski jump. A skibock is a ski with a small seat, used to descend the slopes with smooth turns. Speed, challenge, and guaranteed snow fun!
- Snowshoeing. Pull on your hiking boots and feel the fresh snow crunch under your feet. Explore the white forests, enjoy the panoramic views, and spot wild deer!
- Bobsleigh. Always wanted to be in the Formula 1 of winter sports? Now you can in Winterberg! With a top speed of no less than 130 kilometers per hour, you can race down one of the fastest bobsleigh runs in the world within a minute.
Après-ski
The après-ski in Winterberg is a lot more laid-back compared to, for example, Austria. Nevertheless, the après-ski here is also a true party and, of course, not to be missed during a successful winter sports trip. There are several après-ski bars to be found on the pistes, the best known of which is located in Hotel der Brabander. The popular après-ski songs blast out of the speakers here, and the friendly staff ensures a real party. A more traditional après-ski can be found at Alm Saletti, recognisable by the red turret next to the Rauher Busch chairlift. Finally, the Tenne disco is one of the oldest frequented discos in the area. Tenne has multiple floors and is known for its diverse music genres.
Stay in Winterberg
Winterberg boasts a number of fantastic accommodations. These are often located in the cosy centre and within walking distance of the slopes and ski lifts. Choose from one of the luxurious hotels, the spacious apartments or one of the smaller traditional hotels. A bonus with these accommodations is that they are often equipped with a spa centre! After a day on the slopes, enjoy a visit to the sauna, steam rooms, fitness room, indoor or heated outdoor swimming pool, among other things. A wonderful prospect, isn't it?
